Bruins Shutout Lightning 5-0

The Tampa Bay Lightning fell to the Boston Bruins by a final score of 5-0. It was their 7th straight loss to the Bruins and their second of the 2013-2014 season.

With the loss the Lightning fall to 5-3-0  (10 points) and with the victory the Bruins record improvs to 5-2-0 (10 points).

As soon as the puck dropped the Lighting seemed disorganized and skittish and as a result they found themselves in an early hole as  David Krejci (assited by Milan Lucic and Jarome Iginla) pushed a wristshot past Ben Bishop at the 1:32 mark.

The Lightning showed glimpses of cohesive play over the second half of the first period but as the period was winding down the Bruins seemed to apply the type of pressure that didn’t bode well for the Lightning.

As the puck dropped to begin the 2nd period the Bruins continued to pressure the Lightning and as a result  Adam McQuaid scored an unassisted goal at the 4:37 mark to give the Bruins the 2-0 lead.

The Bruins continued to have their way with the Lightning holding them scoreless and finally put the game out of reach with two goals in less than a minute. At the 14:52 mark  Patrice Bergeron (assisted Reilly Smith and Loui Eriksson) put the Bruins up 3-0 and less than a minute later at the 15:47 mark Chris Kelly scored (assisted by Brad Marchand Carl Soderberg) to give the Bruins a commanding 4-0 lead. After giving up 4 goals in 17 shots Ben Bishop was removed for Anders Lindback.

A mere 34 seconds into the third period the Bruins Shawn Thornton (assisted by Daniel Paille) scored to push the Bruins lead to 5-0.

The game was chippy as it wound down as Adam McQuaid and Nate Thompson got into a fight at the 13:35 mark and Jarome Iginla and Radko Gudas got into a skirmish at the 14:24 mark.

The Lightning will take on the Chicago Black Hawks on Thursday evening.
