‘Tis the season for silly speculation, and with Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis squarely on the trading block — despite what Rex Ryan would try to tell you — there’s a crazy amount of rumors surrounding what teams could be interested.
So when we hear, via Rich Cimini of ESPN New York, that the Broncos “have expressed interest” in Revis, expect plenty of discussion about what that could potentially mean.
For starters, though, let’s point out that everyone should “express interest” in Revis. Even if you’re a non-contending club with no cap room, your GM should be calling John Idzik to inquire about a potential swap. It never hurts to ask.
Having said that, the Broncos could make sense. They’ve been aggressive in acquiring high-profile players under John Elway, and they’re currently employing an aging cornerback who turned out to be a steal of a trade in Champ Bailey. Bailey’s 34 and while Elway has said he won’t move the cornerback to safety, pairing Revis with Chris Harris and Champ would really beef up the secondary.
