The Brewers have signed right-handed reliever Francisco Rodriguez to a minor league contract, the team announced. He will spend some time at the team’s spring training complex. Milwaukee has 30 days to assign him somewhere.
K-Rod, 31, spent last season with the Brew Crew, pitching to a 4.38 ERA with a 1.33 WHIP and 72 strikeouts in 72 innings. He was an elite closer in the past. A four-time All-Star, Rodriguez led the AL in saves three times and still holds the record for most saves in a single season with 62 (2008).
Rodriguez has 294 career saves, so if he can find a way to gather six more, he’ll become the 25th pitcher in baseball history to hit the 300 mark.
