Breaking News: Magic Buy-Out Glen Davis

Magic_Glen_Davis_2013Glen’ Big Baby’ Davis will not be part of the Magic roster as of Friday morning. The Orlando Magic decided to buy-out the 6-foot-9 forward after not being able to trade him before the NBA’s trading deadline.

Davis did not fit the Magic’s system or what they want to be about. Both parties were frustrated with each other and parting ways was best for both.

Davis can go sign with a contending team and the Magic can move on with their rebuilding process.

The Magic strive to be leaders on and off the court and Davis did not help achieve that. Davis made headlines for all the wrong reason in November 2013 for throwing a keyboard at a local motel after being told they did not have any rooms available. The Magic dealt with the matter internally and fined him for an undisclosed amount.

Since returning from two foot surgeries, Davis averaged 12.1 points per game, 6.3 rebounds per game, 1.6 assists per game and 1.02 steals per game. In 45 games this season, Davis led the Magic in scoring four times, in rebounding eight times and in assists twice. He scored over 20 points four times, including a career-high 33 points against Philadelphia in early December.

Once the buyout is cleared, Davis will be able to sign with any team that wants him. The speculation is that Davis will go to the Los Angeles Clippers. This is not a surprise since Davis played for Doc Rivers in Boston for several years.

With Davis gone, Andrew Nicholson and Kyle O’Quinn will be seeing a lot more minutes. This will help the young forwards get more experience and confidence, which will lead to growth.
