The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had held out hope that star running back Doug Martin could rehabilitate his injured shoulder in time to finish out the regular season. Instead he is headed to Injured Reserve, effectively ending his 2013 season.

Martin suffered a torn labrum against the Atlanta Falcons on Oct. 20, landing hard on his left shoulder while matching a catch along the sideline. He will require surgery.

The second-year pro out of Boise State started six games for the team this year, finishing with 456 rushing yards on 127 carries, 66 receiving yards on 12 catches and a touchdown.

Last year, he made the Pro Bowl as a rookie, recording 1,926 yards from scrimmage which was third-highest in the league behind running back Adrian Peterson and wide receiver Calvin Johnson.
