BREAKING: Bucs Agree to Terms with Pro Bowl CB Alterraun Verner
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are now fully-prepared to unload Darrelle Revis and his mega-salary. On Tuesday night, they agreed to terms with Titans Pro Bowl cornerback Alterraun Verner on a four-year deal worth $26.6 million.
The deal includes $14-million guaranteed — much more manageable than the six-year, $96 million deal the Bucs signed for Revis last season.
It’s also a lot more manageable than most would expect, given his caliber of play and the number of teams interested.
Verner, 25, was considered one of the hottest names on the free agent market. Cornerback Sam Shields re-signed with the Packers for four years and $39 million with a $12.5 million signing bonus.
In 2013, Verner tied for an AFC-leading give interceptions and led the league with 27 pass breakups.
A fourth-round draft pick by the Titans in 2010, he started all 16 games the last two seasons, with 47 starts during his career.
According to reports, the Jets, Vikings, Rams, Lions, Steelers and Giants also showed interest.
