Manchester City kick off this weekend’s action as they face Steve Bruce’s Hull City. Manuel Pellegrini’s side will be desperate to bounce back after they suffered a shocking 3-2 defeat to Cardiff last time out. They could be aided by the return of central defender Matija Nastasic, who is expected to return to the starting line-up after recovering from an ankle injury. New midfield duo, Tom Huddlestone and Jack Livermore, will add some much needed quality to newly promoted Hull City.
Cardiff City will be looking to build on that historic win over Manchester City, as they play host to Everton. The hostile atmosphere at Cardiff’s Liberty Stadium will be a major advantage for the Welsh side all season long, and could help them record their first back-to-back wins in the top flight since 1962.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Newcastle United look to pick up their first win of the season as they entertain Fulham at St. James Park. Two of the transfer window’s biggest movers face off, as Southampton make the trip North to play Norwich City. However, Norwich will again be without new signing Gary Hooper, who picked up a shin injury during preseason. West Ham, who have yet to concede a goal this season, will welcome Stoke City to Upton Park as both teams aim to continue their solid starts to the season. Crystal Palace versus Sunderland rounds up Saturday’s action. Newly promoted Crystal Palace will see this as a real opportunity to pick up their first points of the season.
The two most successful clubs in English football history face off on super Sunday. Liverpool welcome North-West rivals Manchester United to Anfield, and will be hoping to make a major statement to the league’s top teams. A win for the home side would see Liverpool win their first three league matches for the first time since 1994. Manchester United manager, David Moyes, failed to record a single win at Anfield during his 11 year tenure as Everton manager.
Swansea will be hoping to kick start their campaign as they travel to West Brom. Swansea has had a tough start to the season, facing Tottenham and Manchester United in their opening fixtures. West Brom will be without goalkeeper Ben Foster, who is out for 12 weeks after picking up an ankle injury.
The North London derby rounds up this weekend’s action, as Arsenal host Tottenham at the Emirates stadium. Tottenham, who have done exceptionally well in the transfer window, will be aiming to show that the balance of power in North London has shifted in their favor. An away win for them should see Spurs regarded as a genuine title contender.
