Manchester United stumbled once again as Everton picked up a famous 1-0 win at Old Trafford. Left-back Bryan Oviedo scored a late winner to earn the Toffees their first victory at Old Trafford in 21 years. The result heaped the misery on former manager David Moyes, who saw his United team slip to ninth in the table, 12 points adrift of league leader’s Arsenal. The reigning champions were slightly unlucky on the day, as both Danny Welbeck and Wayne Rooney hit the woodwork. Everton continued their fantastic form under new manager Roberto Martinez, his side sit fifth in the table.
Nicklas Bendtner scored his first goal for Arsenal since March 2011 as the Gunners beat Hull City 2-0 to keep their four point lead at the top of the table. The Danish forward headed home a Carl Jenkinson cross in the fourth minute to set up a dominant performance from the league’s pace-setters. The Gunners controlled the game comfortably, their intricate movement and passing proving too much for the Tigers. Mesut Ozil sealed the affair with an excellent finish in the 47th minute.
Luis Suarez scored four outstanding goals as Liverpool destroyed Norwich City 5-1 at Anfield. The Uruguayan striker was on devastating form and opened the scoring with a 40 yard lob over Norwich keeper John Ruddy. Suarez has now scored 13 goals this season and is the BPL’s current top scorer. The Reds bounced back in style from their shock 3-1 defeat to Hull last time out, and currently occupy fourth place in the table.
Chelsea came from behind to pick up a thrilling 4-3 away victory over Sunderland. The Black Cats went ahead through American Jozy Altidore’s first goal for the club. Eden Hazard was the stand out player for the Blues, the Belgian midfielder scored two sublime goals as Jose Mourinho’s team fought back for the three points. The result pushed Gus Poyet’s Sunderland back to the bottom of the table after Crystal Palace’s 1-0 win over West Ham. Chelsea remain second in the table, four points behind Arsenal.
Yaya Toure scored twice as Manchester City beat West Brom 3-2 to earn only their second away win of the Premier League season. City came into the game boasting a perfect home record in the league this season but with question marks over Manuel Pellegrini’s tactics and team selection on their travels.
Elsewhere, Tottenham ended their four game win-less streak as they beat Fulham 2-1 at Craven Cottage. Rene Meulensteen’s first game in charge of the Cottagers ended in defeat, and Fulham have now lost six in a row. Swansea ended Newcastle United’s four game winning streak with an impressive 3-0 victory over the Magpies. The victory was the only the Swans second home win of the season. Fabian Delph hit a spectacular late winner as Aston Villa ended Southampton’s unbeaten home record in an entertaining match 3-2 win at St Mary’s. The Saints have now lost three in a row and have slipped to eighth. Tony Pulis earned his first win as Crystal Palace manager after a 1-0 victory over West Ham at Selhurt Park. Finally, Stoke City and Cardiff played out a 0-0 stalemate at the Britannia Stadium.
