Bolt Prospect of the Week: 5-1-13

Him again?

Him again.

Two weeks ago the Syracuse Crunch's Tyler Johnson won the AHL Most Valuable Player award and subsequently our Bolt Prospect of the Week honor. We tried to keep him off the medal stand this week but he wouldnt let us.

Johnson followed up his hat trick and four points two weeks ago with five points in two playoff games to claim the award again. He was second star in Fridays 4-3 overtime win over Portland, then first star in the Crunchs 4-2 win on Saturday. He and teammate Ondrej Palat runner up for this weeks award are among five players tied for the AHLs playoff scoring lead after two games with five points.

The Spokane, Washington, native had a goal and two assists on Friday, including Syracuses first playoff goal and a secondary assist on Richard Paniks overtime winner. On Saturday, he scored a key shorthanded goal and added a helper.

Johnson, an undrafted free agent signing in March 2011, has scored in all five games since he was returned to Syracuse from NHL Tampa Bay. He projects as a two-way center at the NHL level and could have a permanent spot with the Lightning as soon as next season depending on how the roster shakes out this summer.

Johnson is ranked No. 2 among Lightning prospects by BoltProspects.com.
