Bobby Bowden’s Grandson Killed in Car Crash
Former Florida State football coach Bobby Bowden and his family have lost 23-year-old Taylor Jeffrey “T.J.” Bowden in a car crash early Thursday morning. Bowden was in the car with his friend, Rafael Fernandes De Aguiar Valim, who also passed away.
Investigators think alcohol was a factor in the crash but they are still waiting for blood test results.
Workers in a garbage truck saw the car upside-down and partly submerged in water at about 7:45 am on Thursday. The car is said to have broke through a fence and then slipped down an embankment and into the water.
Divers were able to rescue the backseat passenger in the car, who they found submerged up to his neck. They assume he was unconscious for many hours and he was treated for hypothermia and other injuries.
The divers tried to search for other survivors in the crash but they did not get a response when they banged on the car.
Sadly, this is the second grandson of Coach Bowden to be killed in a crash. Bowden Madden and his father, John Madden passed away in 2004 when their car hit a van near Tallahassee.
