Watching Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter as he sat in the visitors dugout at the Rogers Centre Sunday in Toronto he had a blank stare on his face. The Blue Jays were putting the final touches on a 13-5 victory that would push their Major League best winning streak to 11 games. In the process they completed a 3 game sweep of a Baltimore team that had not that done to them since last season.
After the game Showalter would tell the media: “We’ve faced really hot clubs on the road and at home, and we will again. We haven’t played half the season yet. Nothing is unexpected. You look at the track record of their players and that’s why you acquire guys like that, because you know what you’re going to get eventually. I think you’re seeing some of that happen now. These guys are good and they know they have just as good a chance as we do to win this division.”
Tonight at the Trop the Rays are hoping to find a way to cool off the hottest team in baseball. Both teams are 5 games back of Boston and this three series comes at time when the Rays need to use every bit of that home field advantage.
Esmil Rogers 3-2 will be on the hill for the Jays while the Rays hope that Jeremy Hellickson, who sports a record of 5-3 can slow down the high flying birds.
