Bishop Stands Tall In Return, Bolts Beat Rangers 2-1

The Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the New York Rangers by a final score of 2-1. The victory improves the Bolts record in the second game of back-to-back to 5-1-1-and elevates their overall record to 28-15-4 (60 points). Tonight marked the Bolts eighth games in their eighth different city since New Years Day and they went 5-3 over that span. The victory puts the Bolts back into a tie with Boston for the Atlantic Division lead after the Bruins lost to the Maple Leafs in regulation.

Bishop_Rangers2 [1]Brad Richards [2] scored the only goal against Ben Bishop [3] at the 11:55 mark of the first period to give the Rangers the early 1-0 advantage.

The Lightning came back in the second period to take a 2-1 lead on goals by Victor Hedman [4] (10th) and Nikita Kucherov [5] (7) just 9 seconds apart in the second period.

The two goals in 9-seconds tied the franchise record for quickest goals previously held by Dave Andreychuk [6] and Fredrik Modin [7] on January 9, 2004 vs New Jersey Devils.

The one goal advantage was all that goalie Ben Bishop [3] needed. Returning to the lineup for the first time in 4 games and he saved 33 of 34 shots improving his lifetime record against the New York Rangers to 5-0-0 with a 0.91 goals against average (.970 save percentage).

Ben Bishop was arguably the best player on the ice for the Lightning. “Especially when you’re going on the road and you’re trying to win a hockey game it all starts with your goal tending,” coach Jon Cooper said, “he gave us a chance to win tonight and it worked out for us.”

Victor Hedman [4]‘s has recorded four goals and seven assists since returning from injury 13 games ago.

Martin St. Louis [8] had an assist on Victor Hedman’s goal¬†for his 956th career point moving him past Patrik Elias [9] into 88th place on the NHL All-Time points list two behind Larry Robinson [10].
