Tampa Bay Lightning Defeat Calgary Flames For Fifth In A Row On Road

The Tampa Bay Lightning defeated the Calgary Flames by a final score of 2-0 for their fifth consecutive road victory. The Bolts record improves to 25-12-4 while the loss drops the Flames to 14-21-6.

Bishop_Lightning_Flames [1]Ben Bishop [2] picks up his 22nd win on the season stopping all 19 shots he faced picking up his fourth shutout on the season.

His 22 wins pull him into a tie for most in the NHL with the Sharks Antti Niemi [3] and the Penguins Marc-Andre Fleury [4].

He and the Bruins Tuukka Rask [5] share the NHL lead for shutouts. It was his Bishop’s seventh career shutout and his strong performance earned him the games top star.

“It’s a great win, I think the guys played great tonight from start to finish, a full 60-minutes made it easy on me.” Bishop said after the game.

It was Bishops second straight victory since being held off the US Olympic Hockey team but the snub isn’t driving him, “I don’t think I’m using that as motivation. It’s the same thing as all year, you go out there and take it game by game and just try and help the team win. I’m not going to dwell on that USA that’s their choice – I though I played well enough. You have to respect it there’s three really good goalies representing the USA so I wish them nothing but the best of luck.”

“Anytime you win a road game it’s a good game.” said Lightning coach Jon Cooper after the game.  When asked if Bishop’s performance was indicative of an answer to the US Olympic snub Cooper said, “I think Ben’s been the answer for 41 games so far this year. So, hopefully he can continue to play the way he’s been playing. He gives us a boost when he’s out there.”

The Bolts had several strong scoring opportunities and took 29 shots and Flames goalie Karri Ramo [6] stopped all but two earning him the games second star of the night.

The Lighting were able to get the puck by Ramo in the second period when  Ondrej Palat [7] and Nikita Kucherov [8] scored their seventh and fifth goals on the season respectively. Ondrej Palat [7] had a goal and an assist on the evening earning him the games third star of the night.

Ondrej Palat [7] continues to impress and is growing into a NHL player.  “He’s good at the game,” said Jon Cooper, “He’s just one of those quiet guys that is zero maintenance, he works his tail off, he’ll probably kill me for saying this – but you can make an instructional video on how to play the game the proper way.”

The Lightning move on to Edmonton to take on the Oilers on Sunday before finishing the four game Western Canada swing against the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday evening.
