Ben Bishop Leads Tampa Bay Lightning To Victory Over Red Wings 3-0
Ben Bishop Records Shutout As Tampa Bay Lightning Defeat Detroit Red Wings 3-0
The Tampa Bay Lightning (19-11-3) defeated the Detroit Red Wings (15-11-9) by a final score of 3-0. It was the third straight victory over the Red Wings this season and second at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. Prior to this season the Lightning had not defeated the Red Wings in Detroit since January 12, 1994 going 0-10-1 in the 11 contests.
The victory ended a seven game road winless streak which dates back to November 12th when they beat the Montreal Canadiens in a shootout. The team went o-5-2 in that span. The loss extends the Red Wings misery on their home ice as they have just two wins in their last 15 home games.
Earning the first star of the game was Lightning goalie Ben Bishop who stopped 28 shots en route to his third shutout of the season and sixth of his career. The second star of the game was awarded to Tyler Johnson (1 goal) and the third star of the game was earned by Red Wings goalie Petr Mrazek who stopped 24 of 26 shots he faced.
The Lightning and Red Wings entered the third period scoreless but that changed at the 3:13 mark of the final period when Tyler Johnson scored his 8th goal with assists to Martin St. Louis (18) and Ondrej Palat (7).
The Red Wings had an opportunity to pressure the Lightning as they had an extra attacker when Ondrej Palat was called for a questionable hooking call at the 12:17 mark but as they have most of the season the penalty kill unit kept the opposition off the board.
The Lightning will travel to New York to take on the Islanders Tuesday night at 7:oo p.m before returning home Thursday evening to take on the Nashville Predators.
