For over a decade, Ronde Barber owned the secondary at Raymond James Stadium.

Now, he owns a lot more real estate in Tampa.

The recently retired Buccaneer defensive back was given the key to the city by mayor Bob Buckhorn at the end of Thursday’s Sneaker Soiree, the third annual sports awards show of sorts put on by the Tampa Bay Sports Commission.

Barber appeared at the end of the event to close down the makeshift bar that area coaches Joe Maddon, Jon Cooper and Greg Schiano were being interviewed at by Bright House Sports Network’s Rock Riley. Buckhorn then surprised Barber with the key at that point. The ex-Buc’s mother also flew in from Virginia to provide another surprise.
