David Price Earns Win Striking Out 10, Rays Hold On For 2-1 Victory
David Price  dominated the Cincinnati Reds lineup striking out 10 batters. He entered the ninth inning with a 2-0 lead and retired Brandon Phillips  on a strikeout for the first out but Joey Votto  connected on a solo home run ending Price’s quest for a shutout and his night.
The Rays went to their bullpen and brought in closer Grant Balfour  who struck out Ryan Ludwick  for the second out of the inning. He lost control thereafter and in the span of three batters he walked the bases loaded and mixed in a wild pitch. With the bases loaded Reds Manager Bryan Price  called on Brayan Pena  to pinch hit for Zack Cozart  . Balfour responded by striking him out looking to end the game.
Price was phenomenal in keeping the Reds hitters off balance. He threw 114 pitches and 85 for strikes including 18 swinging strikes. According to Brooksbaseball.net Price threw 33 changeups which generated 12 swing and misses. Of the 12 swing and misses on the changeup 7 of them resulted in strikeouts (Billy Hamilton , Ryan Ludwick , Jay Bruce , Devin Mesoraco  (twice), Ryan Ludwick , and Brandon Phillips ).
The Rays offense had opportunities against Johnny Cueto  but were only able to generate two runs. Overall they were 1 for 9 with runners in scoring position (1 for 8 against Cueto). He worked seven innings allowing two earned runs on five hits striking out six and walking four.
In the top of the 3rd inning Matt Joyce launched a solo home run that measured 452 feet to give the Rays the 2-0 lead and was the eventual difference in the game.
