Arsene Wenger has admitted he still hopes to add to his squad before the transfer window closes, amid a potential selection crisis in central midfield. There have been negotiations over Germany forward Julian Draxler but, unless Schalke are willing to lower his current £37.8 million valuation, a deal could still be difficult before Friday.
Mathieu Flamini will be automatically suspended for four matches following his straight red card against Southampton last night, meaning that he will miss the fixtures against Crystal Palace, Liverpool, Manchester United and then the FA Cup tie against Liverpool that has been put back to Sunday Feb 16.
It was also revealed that Aaron Ramsey has suffered a recurrence to his thigh injury and, although Arsenal have rejected initial fears that he will be out for up to six weeks, Wenger still agreed that it was a “huge blow”.
“Aaron Ramsey is out for longer than we expected as he had a little setback on Monday in training so I couldn’t bring him to Southampton. It’s the same muscle. He felt it a bit again so we have to be cautious this time.”
Ramsey will be assessed again today and, with Jack Wilshere missing last night due to an ankle injury but potentially back on Sunday again Palace, Wenger now wants to add to his squad before the closure of the transfer window on Friday.
