Angels To Acquire Huston Street From Padres

Angels Bolster Back End of Bullpen

Huston Street

The Angels have agreed to acquire All-Star closer Huston Street from the Padres, reports Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

In return for Street and a minor leaguer, the Padres will receive shortstop prospect Taylor Lindsey (the Angels top prospect according to Baseball America), as well as 23-year-old righty R.J. Alvarez (Angels #4 prospects). Two other minor leaguers are also headed to San Diego.

The Angels were expected to make a move after Oakland bolstered their rotation with Jason Hammel and Jeff Samardzija, and this is definitely a splash for the Halos.

Huston Street has been one of the most effective late-inning relievers in baseball this year, and he is only 30-years-old with a $7MM salary this year and a $7MM club option for 2015.

Street has a 1.09 ERA with 9.3 K/9 and 1.9 BB/9 thus far this season and might have been the most sought after reliever on the trade market this season.

The Angels might be giving up what seems like a lot (or is a lot) for Street, but it is obviously worth it to them given their struggles in the back end of the bullpen and position to make a playoff run.
