Andretti likes his chances in Houston

This weekend IndyCar heads to Texas for their final double header of the 2013 season. It will be the Grand Prix of Houston and given the course layout we should see two very interesting street races. As we look at the IndyCar standing’s with just three races left on the 2013 schedule the drivers championship is still up for grabs.
*TV on NBC Sports Network with Saturday’s race starting at 3 p.m. EDT with Sunday’s race getting way at 1 p.m. EDT.
This week I spoke with Marco Andretti, who at the moment is in fourth place in the standings trailing the series leader Helio Castroneves by a total of 71 points. Andretti feel’s that he can make up that ground with a little bit of luck with three races left on the 2013 schedule.
Sports Talk Florida: You have been through this first year of the double header racing. What are your thought’s?
Andretti: I think that it is a very interesting style of racing. Having back to back races is demanding on all of us, the drivers, the cars and of course our crews. But we can have a bit of a do over if say Saturday then Sunday is another race and you can make up for a bad 24 hours before. There is also the chance – and by the way this how we are approaching this weekend-that you can score two win’s or at least get two top four or five finishes putting the pressure on guys ahead of us.”
Sports Talk Florida: So how do you win the drivers championship?
Andretti: I have to say that both me and my crew have the No. 25 Andretti Motorsport Chevy win each week. There are at least five maybe seven races this year where we had the win in our grasp only to have something go wrong. Look, I am not complaining because luck is a part of racing. But I really think with the two races in Houston and then we finish the season on the oval at Fontana that we can still catch Helio. But this time lady luck will need to be on our side for a change.
Sports Talk Florida: What has been the biggest story-line for you this season?
Andretti: I would have to say that how competitive a year that it has been. We have seen a number of drivers from both the big teams as well as the small one’s win. Clearly there might be more competition than we have seen in years, certainly since I have been driving. It is great for IndyCar but it makes all of us sharper and even more focused because each week there are as many as 15 drivers with a legitimate chance of winning.Andretti likes his chances in Houston by James Williams
