The Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive line might have suffered a setback today, with starting defensive end Adrian Clayborn suffering a groin injury during Wednesday’s practice.
According to Coach Greg Schiano, the extent of the injury is unknown, but Clayborn appeared visibly frustrated after leaving practice early.
[He] couldn’t practice the rest of the day, so I don’t know. That’s usually not a good sign,” Coach Schiano said after practice, acknowledging Clayborn has already seen his share of setbacks.
“He just gets it rolling again and now something’s holding him back, but that’s the way life goes, you just have to keep battling on. He will.”
Receiver Tiquan Underwood, who has been battling with Kevin Ogletree for the slot receiver role, suffered a hamstring injury and did not practice.
Cornerback Myron Lewis also suffered a hamstring injury and missed practice today.
On a positive note, Pro Bowl guard Carl Nicks saw his reps increase today, as did cornerback Darrelle Revis.
“By design we moved him up a couple of reps in the real period,” Schiano said of Nicks, who is coming off a season-ending injury to his toe that required surgery.
“He was doing those teach periods, so little by little. You got to see, you know very little, you got to see how he responds, then move him up some more.”
Schiano was encouraged by what he saw from Nicks and with Revis, who made his way to ‘field one’ today.
“He covered a receiver and went through the passing tree, so he’s been doing everything, just on air, now we actually put a receiver there with him, so it was good.”
