A?s Acquire OF Sam Fuld from Minnesota for LHP Tommy Milone
OAKLAND, Calif. ? The Oakland A?s acquired outfielder Sam Fuld from the Minnesota Twins for left-handed pitcher Tommy Milone, the club announced today.
Fuld was signed by Oakland to a minor league contract February 5 and was on the A?s Opening Day roster. He went 6 for 30 (.200) with two triples, a home run and four RBI in seven games before he was designated for assignment April 12 when Craig Gentry was reinstated from the disabled list. The 32-year-old left-handed hitter was claimed off waivers by Minnesota April 20 and hit .274 with a home run and 17 RBI in 53 games with the Twins. Fuld is batting .263 in 60 games overall, including 45 in center field, 11 in left field and five in right field. He batted .358 with 16 walks and a .476 on-base percentage in 23 games in July.
Milone was on the A?s Opening Day roster and went 6-3 with a 3.55 ERA and .245 opponents batting average in 16 starts before he was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento July 5 after the A?s acquired Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel from the Cubs. After going 0-3 with a 5.86 ERA over his first five starts, Milone was 6-0 with a 2.62 ERA over his final 11 starts. The 27-year-old left-hander is 1-1 with a 6.43 ERA and .318 opponents batting average in four starts with Sacramento. Milone was one of four players acquired by the A?s from Washington following the 2011 season in the Gio Gonzalez trade and was 31-22 with a 3.84 ERA in 75 games, including 73 starts, in three seasons with Oakland.
