The consortium also includes the Big 12 Conference, Conference USA, the Ohio Valley Conference and the Southland Conference.
“Joining the officiating consortium will allow The American to work with four other outstanding conferences in attracting, identifying, developing and assigning top-flight officials for college basketball,” said Aresco. “We believe the consortium will serve all of our member institutions well and will provide a great experience for our men’s basketball student-athletes and programs.”
“We are pleased to have the American Athletic Conference join our officiating consortium,” said Big 12 Conference Commissioner Bob Bowlsby. “The affiliation promises to be an enhancement to basketball officiating and to the development of officials for all parties involved.”
The consortium will be responsible for the recruiting, training, assigning and evaluating of men’s basketball officials for each conference within the consortium. The Men’s Basketball Officiating Consortium is currently coordinated by Curtis Shaw, who officiated more than 1,500 games in his career, including seven NCAA Final Four assignments.
