A-Rod To The Rays
Could Alex Rodriguez play for the Tampa Bay Rays next season? Rodriguez has found himself stuck in a slump, a PR nightmare, over-paid and the Yankee’s management are looking to dump him and his insane contract on another team. Rodriguez has five years and $115 million left on his contract. In 2012 A-Rod made $20 million, batted .272 with 18 home run and 57 RBIs in 122 games. For those keeping score at home he made $2.22 million per home run.
At this point in his career the only place that Rodriguez would fit on the Rays roster is at DH. Last year the Rays used Luke Scott and Jeff Keppinger at DH. They combined for 23 home runs and 95 RBIs with a combine salary of $6.5 million. With the Rays’ batting woes of 2012, Rodriguez would be an improvement and he would sell tickets as well. A-Rod has 647 home runs and is 115 home runs behind Barry Bonds. Rodriguez would have to hit 23 home runs every year for the next five years to tie the record. Just think about it, 2017 at Tropicana Field and A-Rod swinging the bat to tie or break the home run record. For one year the stadium would be packed and all eyes would be on the Rays.
Well for this miracle to happen the Rays would need the Yankees to eat about $80 million of A-Rods contract. I can’t see the Rays paying more than $7 million a year for Rodriguez. The Yankees could be convinced to eat that salary if James Shields was involved in the conversation. The Rays have valuable trading pieces with the best pitching staff in baseball.A-Rod To The Rays by Matthew Sardo
