A-Rod Still Attending Spring Training
Alex Rodriguez is suspended for all of the 2014 regular season, and the postseason should the Yankees make it. But there is a loophole in the ruling that allows him to participate in spring training.
And Rodriguez plans to attend, Ron Berkowitz, his spokesman, told ESPNNewYork.com’s Wallace Matthews.
Rodriguez’s lawyers argued that, if Rodriguez is able to receive an injunction, he would be able to play and should be allowed to prepare for the season as he normally would.
But the Yankees could tell Rodriguez, who’ll turn 39 in July, not to join them in Tampa. He wasn’t with the team while rehabbing from hip surgery last spring, according to Matthews.
The Yankees’ full squad is scheduled to report on Feb. 19.
Rodriguez, who has 654 career home runs, hit .244 with seven homers and 19 RBIs in 44 games last season.
