Earlier today, the San Francisco 49ers traded a sixth-round draft pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars for quarterback Blaine Gabbert. But that wasn’t the only big news coming out of the other Bay area.
Late Tuesday night, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the 49ers were trading a conditional draft choice in exchange for Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Jonathan Martin.
He will reunite with 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh, his former coach at Stanford.
It was a rough year for Martin, who says he was bullied repeatedly by Dolphins teammate Richie Incognito. He abruptly left the team after an incident in the cafeteria, never to return.
Martin’s departure and the turbulent relationship between the two made national headlines, even outside the sports realm, sparking extensive debate over bullying in the workforce.
Many wondered if Martin would ever return to football, but if he is well enough to return to football, and with the right teammates and support system in place, this has the potential for a happy ending.
