2013 NL Rookie Of The Year: Jose Fernandez
Miami Marlins SP Jose Fernandez has been named the 2013 National League Rookie of the Year.
Fernandez threw 172 2/3 innings to the tune of a 2.19 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, .182 BAA and a stellar 187-58 strikeout-to-walk ratio for the Marlins in 2013. His 187 strikeouts were a rookie-record for a franchise that has found another superstar alongside Giancarlo Stanton.
Fernandez had arguably one of the best rookie seasons in baseball history and possibly the greatest ever by an age-20 hurler… not bad for a kid who was supposed to spend most of the season at the Double-A level.
Fernandez is the franchise’s fourth Rookie of the Year – along with Chris Coghlan (2009), Hanley Ramirez (2006) and Dontrelle Willis (2003) – and the first starting pitcher to win the award in the National League since Dontrelle Willis did it in 2003.
