[1] MORNING STANLEY CUP OF JOE – MAY 4, 2013

FRIDAY’S RESULTS
NY ISLANDERS 4, PITTSBURGH 3; series tied 1-1
Sidney Crosby scored twice in his first game since March 30, but the Islanders overcame two early two-goal deficits to record their first postseason win since April 14, 2007.

MONTREAL 3, OTTAWA 1; series tied 1-1
Carey Price made 29 saves and rookie Brendan Gallagher scored what proved to be the game-winner to help the Canadiens even their series.

CHICAGO 5, MINNESOTA 2; CHI leads 2-0
Michael Frolik and Patrick Sharp each scored twice and Corey Crawford recorded 26 saves to lead the Blackhawks to a 2-0 series advantage.

SAN JOSE 3, VANCOUVER 2 (OT); SJ leads 2-0
Patrick Marleau scored the equalizer with 55.1 seconds remaining in regulation and Raffi Torres netted the game-winner 5:31 into overtime to help the Sharks go back to San Jose with a 2-0 series lead.

ALL SM-ISLES
The Islanders trailed 2-0 and 3-1 early in the first period against the Penguins, but rallied to post a 4-3 win in Game 2. The victory marked the first time the Islanders overcame a deficit of two or more goals in the postseason since April 24, 1993, when they won Game 4 of their first-round series against the Capitals, 4-3 in double-overtime, after Washington had taken a 3-0 lead. Before Friday, the last time the Islanders won a playoff game in regulation time after trailing by at least two goals was April 14, 1985, also against the Capitals (6-4 in Game 4 of the opening round). (Elias Sports Bureau)

FIRST TIME’S A CHARM
Four players – Matt Moulson, Colin McDonald, Matt Martin and Kyle Okposo – scored their first playoff goal to lead the Islanders to their Game 2 victory, marking the first time since April 23, 2002, that an NHL team had four players record their first career postseason goal in the same game. Former Islanders Mark Parrish, Brad Isbister, Shawn Bates and Dave Scatchard were the last to accomplish the feat when they each scored in Game 3 of the team’s first-round series against the Maple Leafs (a 6-1 victory). (Elias Sports Bureau)

ROOKIE SENSATION
Montreal forward Brendan Gallagher, who scored the game-winning goal Friday and also netted one of the team’s two goals in the series opener, is one of only four Canadiens rookies over the last 60 years to score in each of the team’s first two games of a postseason. The others were Lorne Davis (1954), Phil Goyette (1958) and Sergei Kostitsyn (2008). (Elias Sports Bureau) Gallagher, who will celebrate his 21st birthday Monday, played in 44 games during the regular season and ranked second among rookies with 15 goals and fourth with 28 points.

LAST-MINUTE HEROICS
Patrick Marleau’s game-tying goal with 55.1 seconds left in regulation marked the second time in franchise history that the Sharks evened a playoff game in the final minute of the third period. The other such instance was on April 16, 2010, when Joe Pavelski scored the equalizer with 32 seconds remaining in Game 2 of San Jose’s opening-round series against Colorado. The Sharks also won that game, 6-5, on the strength of Devin Setoguchi’s overtime winner. (Elias Sports Bureau)

WILD WILD WEST
Through only two games in each series, there has already been one overtime game in each of the Western Conference’s four quarterfinal matchups. Road clubs have won two of those games (Detroit in Game 2 Thursday, San Jose in Game 2 Friday).

Four of the first 14 overall games (28.6%) of the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs have required overtime. Last year, a record 16 opening-round games (33.3%) went past regulation, with road teams winning 12 of those contests.

MAJOR COMEBACK
The Islanders, who lost 5-0 Wednesday in Game 1 of their series against the Penguins, are the first NHL team to win the second game of a playoff series after losing the series opener by five goals or more since 2003, when the Canucks lost 6-0 at home in Game 1 of their first-round series against the Blues but bounced back for a 2-1 victory in Game 2. (Elias Sports Bureau)

DID YOU KNOW?
In best-of-seven series, teams that have taken a 2-0 series lead have gone on to win the series 86.7% (280-43) of the time in NHL history.

The Canucks have their work cut out for them. In best-of-seven series, teams that have lost the first two games, both at home, have only been able to come back 23.4% (18-59) of the time in NHL history.

TOOTH FAIRY
For the second time in as many games, the winning goaltender in the Canadiens-Senators series lost a tooth. First, in Thursday’s Game 1, Ottawa’s Craig Anderson (48 saves) lost a tooth after taking a shot off his helmet. Then, on Friday, Montreal’s Carey Price (29 saves) lost a pair after a collision in his crease.

AROUND THE TWITTERVERSE

LOOSE PUCKS
Although he eventually scored the game-winner, San Jose forward Raffi Torres was robbed by Roberto Luongo in the second period . . . Chicago forward Patrick Kane fooled everyone on Minnesota to set up Patrick Sharp’s second goal . . . James Lipton, host and executive producer of Bravo’s “Inside the Actors Studio,” hosted a Q&A Friday with Michael J. Fox, Phil Pritchard and the Stanley Cup at the NHL Powered by Reebok Store in New York City . . . The Department of Player Safety announced that Ottawa defenseman Eric Gryba has been suspended for two games for an illegal check to the head of Montreal forward Lars Eller.
