MORNING STANLEY CUP OF JOE – MAY 12, 2013
PITTSBURGH 4, NY ISLANDERS 3 (OT); PIT wins 4-2 Brooks Orpik scored his first career playoff goal 7:49 into overtime to complete Pittsburgh’s comeback from three one-goal deficits and clinch the team’s first series victory since 2010.
Pittsburgh clinched its sixth consecutive playoff series victory on the road.
The win also marked the Penguins’ first postseason series victory over the Islanders – they lost the previous three meetings in 1975, 1982 and 1993, with each series going the distance.
Sixteen of the first 42 games (38.1%) of the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs have required overtime, tying last year’s opening-round record (16-of-48, 33.3%). Home teams fell to 10-6 (.625) in overtime games this postseason; they went 4-12 (.250) in the opening round last year.

77 career playoff games, the third-most in NHL history among skaters with no postseason goals, trailing only Craig Muni (113 games) and Hal Gill (110). (Elias Sports Bureau)
Orpik hadn’t scored a goal in 106 consecutive games (regular season and playoffs), with his last tally coming on Nov. 21, 2011, also against the Islanders.
