1000 Games: Vincent Lecavalier
Lightning Captain To Be Honored Prior to Next Home Game Friday Night
TAMPA BAY Tampa Bay Lightning captain Vincent Lecavalier skated in his 1,000th career NHL game today against the New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum. He became the 280th player in NHL history to reach the 1,000-game milestone.
Lecavalier, the first overall selection in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft, has played 1,000 games for the Lightning and ranks fifth all time in NHL history for games played by first overall picks by their drafting team. He is the 29th player to reach the 1,000 game mark currently playing in the league (including Chris Pronger). He is the 49th player to play 1,000 or more games for one NHL franchise, and the eighth active player currently playing in the NHL to have reached that milestone with one team.
The Lightning will honor Lecavaliers achievement before their next home game on Friday, January 25 when they host the Ottawa Senators at 7:30 p.m. at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. Prior to Friday nights puck drop, Lecavalier will be honored with a pregame presentation, commemorating his milestone. In honor of Lecavalier, Reebok purchased 1,000 tickets to Fridays home game against the Senators for fans to win. Fans can enter to win the tickets by going to the Lightnings official Facebook page.
We are very proud to partner with Reebok on this Lightning Facebook ticket giveaway, allowing our fans the chance to see Lecavaliers pre-game presentation on Friday night for free, compliments of Reebok, said Jamie Spencer, executive vice president of sales for the Lightning.
The Ile Bizard, Quebec native is one of three players to ever be selected by the Lightning with the first overall pick in the NHL Entry Draft. Lecavalier was an integral part of the 2004 Stanley Cup championship team. In 2006-07 he won the Maurice Rocket Richard Trophy, awarded to the NHLs top goal scorer during the regular season, when he scored 52 goals, then a Lightning record. Lecavalier still holds the Lightning single-season record for most points in a season with 108, set during the 2006-07 campaign. He has represented the Lightning at the NHL All-Star Game four times in his career (2009, 2008, 2007 and 2003). Lecavalier has tallied 374 goals and 470 assists for 844 points in 1,000 career games.
